EnerGuide for Houses Renovation Grants
A government of Canada grant program to encourage homeowners, particularly those who have older homes in need of energy efficiency upgrades, to retrofit their homes to make them more energy efficient.

Homeowners can become eligible for a grant only after they have had the EnerGuide for Houses evaluation and have followed up on its recommendations.



CMHC Financial Assistance Programs and Grants
Federal Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Programs (RRAP) provide financial assistance in the form of loans, forgivable loans or non-repayable contributions, and can be used to fund repairs, renovations, accessibility modifications, the creation low-income rental units, and home adaptations. Programs are available for low-income households, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

Homeowner Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program — Homeowner RRAP
The Homeowner RRAP offers financial assistance to low-income households who own and occupy substandard housing to enable them to repair their dwellings to a minimum level of health and safety.

Rental Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program — Rental RRAP
The Rental Residential Rehabilitation Program (Rental RRAP) offers financial assistance to landlords of affordable housing to pay for mandatory repairs to self-contained units occupied by low-income tenants. Mandatory repairs are those required to bring properties up to minimum levels of health and safety.

The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program — Secondary/Garden suite is to assist in the creation of affordable housing for low-income seniors and adults with a disability by providing financial assistance to convert/develop existing residential properties that can reasonably accommodate a secondary self-contained unit.

The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for Persons with Disabilities offers financial assistance to homeowners and landlords to undertake accessibility work to modify dwellings occupied or intended for occupancy by low-income persons with disabilities.

EnerGuide for Low-Income Households
The EnerGuide for Low-Income Households is a $500-million federal initiative delivered by Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) with the assistance of Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) EnerGuide for Houses service. This is a 5 year program which will help about 130,000 low-income Canadians make energy-efficiency retrofits that will make their housing more affordable and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence (HASI)
This program helps homeowners and landlords pay for minor home adaptations to extend the time low-income seniors can live in their own homes independently.

Provincial
Nova Scotia Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP)
The provincial government offers a number of programs to help lower income households maintain, acquire or rent safe, adequate and affordable housing. Grants, rebates and loans for home repairs and additions, as well as mortgage funds to purchase or build modest houses are available to Nova Scotians given the proper circumstances.
